Eastport Yacht Club and the organizing committee of the Santa Maria Cup have mad ethe difficult decision to cancel this year’s Santa Maria Cup. Due to many scheduling conflicts, we struggle to get enough registered teams to field a competitive event. “This year is an exceptionally busy year for women in sailing including the Paris Olympics and the first Women’s Americas Cup in Barcelona, as a result the scheduling for sailors and teams has proved challenging. Opportunities for women in sailing are growing fast at the moment” said James Pleasance, Director of the Women’s World Match Race tour.
Sharon Borland co-chair of the Santa Maria Cup Committee said, “EYC and the SMC Committee are working to build it bigger and better next year, with the idea of moving back to its original dates in early June.”
We are saddened to have to make this decision, but feel it is the right one for all of us. We thank all of you for your support, and look forward to a successful event next year.
